Red wines are typically dry. They’re usually not sweet as well. (some can be)

Red wines, for the most part, are an aquired taste. Usually not a good choice for first time wine drinkers. Whites are better in that case. However, if you have had white white before, I’d try it.

It’s hard to describe the taste as every red has it’s own character. Some are oaky, while others have a floral bouquet. If you want to try one, here’s my suggestion. Try a merlot. I personally feel the most even keeled of the reds.

Make sure you don’t put the bottle in the fridge. Most red wines are meant to be served at room temp, or slightly chilled. Uncork the bottle, and let it sit for around a half hour. It’s called "breathing", which is suggested for merlots.
